My hot and humid fool-proof makeup

It has been hot and humid here in LA lately. And oftentimes I hate putting on makeup just because it just melts off my face as soon as the sun hits me. But with these products I can look put together despite the heat and humidity.

Here’s what I’ve been using lately…

  • Face primer: Black Radiance True Complexion Shine Control Primer – I find that this is the best primer to use with my new holy grail powder foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Powder Makeup. They are available in drugstores where Black Radiance is sold, around $5.99.
  • Foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Powder Makeup – I recently reviewed it HERE. And it is the best I have ever tried. Powder is fine and coverage is superb. I don’t judge powder foundations on their longevity only because when I sweat I tend to touch my face a lot with tissue and powder transfers to the tissue. $38 at Macy’s, Nordstroms, Bloomingdales, Sephora
  • Eyeshadow: Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks, reviewed HERE, $26 at Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Sephora, Nordstroms; Trish McEvoy 24-hour Eyeshadow and Liner , reviewed HERE, $32 at Bloomingdales, Nordstroms
  • Eyeliner: even if it’s not hot and humid, eyeliner is important to me as I have oily lids. I love Asian brands like K-Palette 24-hour Eyeliner and the one pictured here called Eyescream. Both you can find online at or
  • Lip product: summer rotation includes lovely lipsticks from Givenchy, Marc Jacobs and Lipstick Queen, and glosses from fresh.

I know it’s not much, but the hotter the weather, the less makeup I want to put on my face. Just thought I’d share what worked for me. Have a good one!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Powder Makeup in 3C1 Dusk

~ purchased by me ~

I have heard good things about Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation especially on the oil-control department. Since it is summer here I thought it’s best to try out the powder version and see how it holds up to SoCal Summer.

This product claims 8-hour wear with an interesting dual-sided sponge applicator. And it did just that although there might be some fading, my fault mostly from touching my face, eating, etc.

I love this type of packaging as I like keeping my applicators separate from the product itself for sanitary purposes.

And the vents at the bottom keeps the applicator compartment vented. We know what happens to things that are not allowed to air-dry and we don’t want that.

The powder itself is a dream. It is

The powder itself is a dream. It smooths on the skin, super velvety soft. I used the sponge side to apply the powder on my bare face without any primer. It evened out my skin tone, did not have that “dry” feeling most powders have, oil-breakthrough at my nose area did not appear until the 3rd hour, the rest of my face remained oil-free the rest of the day. I will be trying it out with a primer, using the Marc Jacobs Face II Brush with and without primer for comparison and will post updates.

For now, here is my before picture after I have put on my skincare products without primer.

And here was my hurried “face”. Forgive those brows. Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick in Cocoa topped with Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Heather Rose, Maybelline Mascara, Cle de Peau Concealer in Honey to hide those pesky dark circles, Chanel Joues Contraste Blush in 160 Innocence on the cheeks and Fresh Sugar Shine Lip Gloss in Rose.
